Bitterblue has a pretty sad life, with that name, who wouldn't. She runs a kingdom without parents or siblings and only is allowed to know half of what is happening, usually less. Sure she prances around in big gowns and has a cushion for her crown (that almost rhymed) but her only friends are her family and staff. One of the reasons why she doesn't leave the castle is that her advisers witnessed and performed atrocities at the will of her psychotic father and don't want her to see the wreckage he caused on Monsea. When she finally sneaks off, she finds herself in some kind of story telling bar in search of watermelon patches. Bitterblue then proceeds to launch the most disappointing love story I have ever read.
Reading: 9-11
Maturity: 14+ Suggested rape and mild violence
I would recommend this book because the setting is very well developed The characters are real and flawed. I would suggest the other two in the series over this book because this book can drag on.
Like this, like Graceling, Fire, Clockwork Angel, Struck.
