This is another space to find the files for class this week. If you have accessed them from PCR, these are the same documents.
Lesson 1: We looked at the year overview and discussed what we are going to cover this year and had a fire drill!
Lesson 2: Descriptive writing
We used Sei's Story by A. Davidson to look at descriptive writing techniques and sensory imagery. We practiced our lit devices using an old quiz. We discussed irony, theme and character as a review. Students chose to respond, in writing, to one of the questions listed here:
1. When the daimyo cuts his hand after Sei denies his marriage proposal, he thinks, “The blood calmed him because it reminded him who he was” (241). Discuss the character of the daimyo in Sei’s love story. (5 marks)
2. Discuss irony in Sei’s Love Story. Use paragraph form and support your answer with specific examples from the text. (5 marks)
3. Poetic Justice is defined as “an ideal form of justice in which the good characters are
rewarded and the bad characters are punished by an ironic twist of their fate” (Literary devices.net). In a multi paragraph answer, discuss how this story is an example of poetic justice? Use specific reference to the text.
One of the above responses is due to turnitin on Sept 15, by 12:00am.
Lesson 2: Descriptive Writing
We took up the literary terms from the pre-school assignment (On Hating Piano Lessons). We reviewed the descriptive writing techniques listed in the attached pdf of a powerpoint.
Link to BC Rubrics for writing. Sei's story will be assessed using the stand-alone text rubric.
